Jake Quinlan

Senza Futoro, Italian for No Future, is a new exhibition by contemporary Welsh artist Jake Quinlan that invites viewers to confront a world many of us inhabit while simultaneously choosing to ignore. Hailing from the industrial valley town of Merthyr Tydfil, Quinlan draws deeply from his working-class roots, using his art to explore and interpret the lived realities of everyday working people.

 

This latest solo exhibition marks a significant new chapter in the artist’s evolving practice, offering audiences the opportunity to engage with a collection of works, many of which are being exhibited publicly for the first time. Building upon the recurring themes that have come to define his work, Senza Futoro continues an unflinching examination of working-class life, portraying its complexities with striking honesty and emotional depth.

 

Through a series of powerful and deeply personal pieces, Quinlan invites viewers into a world shaped by hardship, resilience, and raw human experience. Brutality and tenderness coexist throughout the exhibition, revealing moments of chaos, anger, desire, vulnerability, and survival. Drawing upon lived experience and collective memory, the works explore social and emotional landscapes that often remain unseen, challenging audiences to confront uncomfortable truths while discovering beauty within struggle.

 

Quinlan has exhibited extensively throughout Wales, including several exhibitions in Cardiff. Senza Futoro, however, stands as the largest presentation of the artist’s work ever shown simultaneously in the capital. Bringing together more than thirty works spanning a range of scales, palettes, and approaches, the exhibition is united by a consistent sense of angst, drama, and operatic intensity that has become synonymous with Quinlan’s practice.
